AUSTRIA: BRUTTA CADUTA PER GIOVANNI VISCONTI, IL CORRIDORE DELLA NERI SOTTOLI E’ SOTTO OSSERVAZIONE

Oggi, a 2 km dall’arrivo della 5^ tappa del Tour of Austria, Giovanni Visconti e Sebastian Schönberger sono rimasti coinvolti in una caduta provocata da un tratto molto pericoloso, con un lungo tunnel seguito da una curva in discesa.

Il gruppo, che arrivava ad oltre 70 km/h, ha quindi frenato bruscamente con diversi corridori finiti a terra.

Visconti, che soffre di sferocitosi, è stato trasportato in elicottero all’ospedale di Salisburgo per prevenire problemi legati alla splenomegalia, ovvero al rischio di emorragie causate dall’ingrossamento della milza. Visconti rimarrà sotto osservazione in ospedale anche stanotte.

Il corridore siciliano ha subito anche un piccolo intervento alla gamba sinistra dove gli sono stati applicati dei punti. Per il momento sembrano escluse ulteriori fratture.

Nessuna frattura anche per Sebastian Schönberger che ha chiuso la sua frazione nonostante numerose ferite al fianco destro.

Schönberger è stato trasportato all’ospedale di Kitzbuhel e, dopo gli accertamenti, è tornato all’hotel dove alloggia la squadra.

Purtroppo va sottolineata la mancata prontezza dei soccorsi con i nostri corridori che, nonostante le gravi cadute e i continui richiami da parte del nostro staff, non hanno ricevuto il supporto necessario in quella che era una situazione che poteva portare a conseguenze ben più drammatiche

UPDATE ON THE CONDITIONS OF GIOVANNI VISCONTI AND SEBASTIAN SCHÖNBERGER

 

Today, with 2 kms to go from the finish of the 5th stage of the Tour of Austria, Giovanni Visconti and Sebastian Schönberger were involved in a huge crash caused by a very dangerous segment of the race, with a long tunnel followed by a turn in downhill.

The peloton arrived there at a speed of 70 km/h, there was a sharp braking and many riders went on the floor.

Visconti, that suffers of spherocytosis, has been transported by helicopter to the hospital of Salzburg to avoid troubles of splenomegaly, the risk of hemorrhage caused by the enlargement of the spleen. Visconti will spend the night in the hospital.

The sicilian rider had also a check at his left leg where some stitches were applied. The first report excludes fractures.

Nothing broken also for Sebastian Schonberger who was able to end his race despite many wounds on his right side.

He was transferred to the hospital of Kitzbuhel and, after the exams, he has made his return to the hotel where the team will stay for the night.

Unfortunately we have to talk about the lack of adequacy of the rescues with our riders that, despite the bad crashes and the continous appeals of our staff, didn’t receive the support necessary in a situation that could bring to some very dramatic consequences
