Ottima prestazione di squadra alla 106° Milano – Sanremo. Alla Classicissima, lunga 293km, Stefano Pirazzi ha fatto parte di una lunga fuga mentre nel finale ci ha pensato Sonny Colbrelli a rimanere con i migliori fin sotto al traguardo di Via Roma.

 

LA FUGA

La corsa partiva sotto ad una fitta pioggia e dopo pochi chilometri attaccavano undici atleti tra cui Stefano Pirazzi. La fuga guadagnava nella prima fino a 11.30 minuti.

Superato il Passo Turchino il vantaggio iniziava a calare e all’inizio dei Capi a 53km dall’arrivo, il gruppo era oramai a meno di due minuti.

 

CAPO BERTA

Proprio sull’ultimo, il Capo Berta, Pirazzi accelerava in testa seguito da altri tre fuggitivi. Questo nuovo interessante tentativo si esauriva purtroppo quasi ai piedi della Cipressa, terminando una lunga azione durata ben 220km.

 

IL FINALE

Sulla penultima salita di giornata il gruppo si riduceva drasticamente rimanendo composto da non più di 50 unità tra cui un sorprendente Sonny Colbrelli.

Sul Poggio ci provavano in diversi ma nessun tentativo era decisivo. Colbrelli era sempre nelle prime posizione, mostrando una brillante condizione considerando i problemi di salute delle settimane scorse.

La Sanremo si decideva in volata. In 29 andavano a giocarsi la vittoria allo sprint e a vincere era John Degenkolb (Giant – Alpecin), che anticipava Kristoff (Katusha)e Matthews (Orica – GreenEdge). Colbrelli chiudeva in scia in 18° posizione.

DICHIARAZIONI

 

Sonny Colbrelli:”Stamani una piccola parte di me ci credeva di poter rimanere con i primi fin su Via Roma. Sulla Cipressa Demare (FDJ) mi è caduto davanti e sono ripartito in fondo al gruppo e ho scollinato nelle ultime posizioni. Prima del Poggio sono riuscito a recuperare bene e ho affrontato quest’ultima asperità lucido e nelle prima parte del gruppo. In discesa ho evitato un’altra caduta che è avvenuta davanti a me e ho sprecato energie per chiudere il buco che si era formato con i primi. A quel punto quando è stata lanciata la volata non avevo le gambe per inserirmi nella lotta per la vittoria. Sono comunque soddisfatto perché se guardo indietro e penso a come stavo una settimana fa, non avrei mai pensato di poter fare una corsa così”.

 

Stefano Pirazzi:”La fuga iniziale era un obiettivo importante per noi. Sono riuscito ad entrarci e a dare sempre un ottimo impulso, specie sui tratti in salita. Quando sui Capi abbiamo sentito che il gruppo stava arrivando, ho accelerato per provare ad arrivare ai piedi della Cipressa. Purtroppo il gruppo non ci ha dato spazio e io ho anche iniziato ad avvertire dei crampi che mi hanno rallentato. Comunque l’obiettivo era farsi vedere e penso di esserci riuscito in pieno”. 

 

Roberto Reverberi:”Sono soddisfatto della prestazione dei miei ragazzi oggi, alcuni alla prima Sanremo, che hanno saputo onorare al meglio questa corsa. Pirazzi ha fatto una grande bella azione pur non essendo al meglio causa ginocchio dolorante dalla Strade Bianche e qualche linea di febbre nei giorni scorsi. Con il suo carattere è andato oltre questi problemi tirando fuori una bella condotta di gara. Nel finale poi è emerso un sorprendente Colbrelli. Dieci giorni fa si era dovuto ritirare dalla Tirreno per influenza, tornando a casa malato. Si è presentato al viadi Milano con tanti punti interrogativi. Ma chilometro dopo chilometro è andato in crescendo e nel finale era lì con i migliori pur non essendo al top. La sua tenacia oggi è d’ammirare. Figlia di un talento che ora nelle prossime settimane verrà senz’altro fuori”             

 

 

#GREENTEAM SHINES AT MILANO – SANREMO

 

 

Superb team performance in 106th edition of Milano – Sanremo. In the Classicissima, length 293km, Stefano Pirazzi was part of the early breakaway,  while in the finale Sonny Colbrelli was strong enough to hold on the best until the arrival in Via Roma.

 

THE BREAKAWAY

The race started under the rain and after few kilometers 11-men attacked with the presence of Pirazzi. The attempt was good and the breakaway gained in the first part 11.30 minutes.

Climbed the Passo Turchino the gap started to go down and the start of Capi with 53km to go, it was less than two-minutes.

 

CAPO BERTA

During the last one, the Capo Berta, Pirazzi attacked in front followed by only three escapees. Unfortunately this new attempt didn’t have enough space and the leading group caught all few kilometers before to hit the Cipressa. Ending a breakaway lasted more than 220km.

 

THE FINALE

On the Cipressa the peloton lost several riders and atop it emerged a selected group of about 50 riders with inside a surprising Sonny Colbrelli.

On the Poggio with 5km to go, there were some attacks but all stopped. Colbrelli was always in the first part of the leading group composed at the top of the final uphill by no more than 30 riders.

The Milano – Sanremo was decided with a sprint in Via Roma. Victory was achieved by John Degenkolb (Giant – Shimano) who oustprinted fomer winner Kristoff (Katusha) and Matthews (Orica – GreenEdge). Colbrelli crossed the line close in 18th place.

REACTIONS

 

Sonny Colbrelli:”This morning a little part of me believed that could stay with the best until the arrival in Via Roma. On the Cipressa I was slowed by crash and I took the following descent in the last positions. Then in the flat sector before Pioggio I had enough time to recover and there I felt quite well. But again in the descent I was lucky to avoid a new crash happened in front of me. I closed the gap but then I didn’t have the legs to join to battle for the victory. Anyway I can be satisfied how went today. Because if I see my shape last week I never believed to do this kind of race”.

 

Stefano Pirazzi:”The early breakaway was important for us and I’m happy to be part of that. I was one of the most active during the few climbs that we found on the road to Sanremo. When we arrived on the Capi and the peloton was close, I raised the pace trying to arrive at the least with few seconds at the bottom of Cipressa. Unfortunately it didn’t work. Also I suffered for some cramps and I had to slow down. Anyway the goal was to be there, make a good visibility. I think I hit the target”.

 

Roberto Reverberi:”I satisfied how guys raced today and how they honored this important event. Pirazzi, despite he’s still suffering for the crash at Strade Bianche and he had a little flu last days, made a really good effort and he was one of the best in the breakaway. In the finale when the race wa decided, Colbrelli came out really well. Ten days ago he had to abandon the Tirreno for flu, coming back home ill. He came to the start this morning with a lot of question marks. But today kilometer after kilometer he went better and in the finale was with the best. His tenacity was super today. Daughter of a talent that now in the next weeks will come out in the best way”.
