CANYON BICYCLES

KOBLENZ, Canyon bicycles has taken another significant step in the Asian market with the launch of Canyon Japan.

This marks the first time the country has had a local office and as such, special guests were invited to celebrate at the opening party held in Tokyo last Sunday, the 23rd of November. Alongside Canyon Crew representatives from Germany was Russian ProTeam Katusha star, Joaquim “Purito” Rodríguez, who had flown over from Europe to headline the event.

Around 200 guests including 100 existing Canyon customers were treated to an exclusive insight into Rodríguez’s own Aeroad CF SLX race bike. Alongside was Canyon engineer, Michael Adomeit, to explain the story behind the bike’s development. The following day the exhibition opened its doors up to the public, allowing local cycling fans an up-close look at the highlight models for 2015, as well as the exclusive chance to meet Rodríguez, winner of the UCI WorldTour in 2012 and 2013.

Canyon has delivered bikes to Japan for a few years. Thanks to the company’s direct distribution business model, all bikes are produced and then dispatched directly to customers to avoid unnecessary costs. Nevertheless, the only channel for Canyon customers in Japan until this point has been through the Japanese language version of canyon.com. With the establishment of a new local team lead by Market Manager, Yukikaze Ishiyama, customers will now receive a huge increase in support and have a host of new services available to them.

Chief Marketing Officer for Canyon Bicycles, Matthew Heitmann, is thrilled by the new opportunities this move opens up: “Japan is a massively important market for Canyon and it’s immediately clear how much passion the Japanese people have for riding. With Yuikikaze Ishiyama and his team now on board we are finally able to offer a direct contact for all our customers in Japan and we look forward to increasing our presence in the thriving bike scene out there.”

Beyond the company headquarters in Koblenz, Germany, Canyon has 12 representatives throughout Europe. Japan is now the second country in Asia to have an official presence following the launch of Canyon South Korea earlier this year. Now based in Kyoto, Canyon Japan will begin providing direct customer support from the beginning of December and already has a number of exciting campaigns lined up for the New Year.
