Morale e condizione per gli otto atleti al via della 61a edizione della corsa francese

 

Appena archiviato un weekend di soddisfazioni – caratterizzato dalla doppia maglia di miglior scalatore al Giro di Turchia e alla Vuelta a Asturias, per mano rispettivamente di Juan Pablo Valencia e Rodolfo Torres – After a successful week-end – la marcia del Team Colombia-Coldeportes prosegue in Francia con la 4 Jours de Dunkerque, una gara che nel proprio albo d’oro vanta nomi del calibro di Jacques Anquetil, Roger De Vlaeminck, Freddy Maertens e Bernard Hinault.

 

Fra gli atleti più in condizione c’è Rodolfo Torres, che sta vivendo la sua miglior stagione da professionista ed è ora in cerca del primo centro della stagione per sè e per la squadra, ma non sarà l’unica risorsa a disposizione di Oliverio Rincon e Valerio Tebaldi: con lui ci saranno Leonardo Duque, Cayetano Sarmiento, Camilo Castiblanco, Fabio Duarte, Walter Pedraza, Brayan Ramirez e Miguel Angel Rubiano, già Campione Nazionale colombiano, tutti motivati a rompere il ghiaccio nel corso delle cinque giornate francesi.

 

Dopo una impegnativa tappa di apertura, dove gli atleti troveranno salite e pave ad attenderli sulla strada per Orchies, il gruppo si sposterà a Maubeuge, dove la corsa terminerà per la prima volta negli ultimi 47 anni. La terza tappa difficilmente lascerà il segno sulla classifica, ma sarà comunque importante, essendo dedicate alla commemorazione delle vittime della Prima Guerra Mondiale. Il giorno successivo, il gruppo si rivolgerà verso Cassel, arrive spesso decisivo nelle ultime edizioni, dove probabilmente si vedrà la sfida fra I pretendenti alla classifica. La corsa si concluderà come sempre a Dunkerque, dove gli sprinter avranno la loro occasione al termine di 10 passaggi su un circuito finale di 6,9 km.

The Escarabajos look to break the ice in Dunkerque

The eight-man squad will tackle wit high morale the 61st edition of the French race

 

After a successful week-end – during which the team won the mountains classification at both the Tour of Turkey and Vuelta a Asturias, thanks to Juan Pablo Valencia and Rodolfo Torres respectively – Colombia-Coldeportes is ready to embark on a new adventure, which will take the riders to France’s 4 Jours de Dunkerque, a race won in the past by the likes of Jacques Anquetil, Roger De Vlaeminck, Freddy Maertens or Bernard Hinault.

 

In-form Rodolfo Torres, who is enjoying his best season since turning pro, will try to bring the team’s first victory of the year, but he’ll not be the only shot of Colombia-Coldeportes, which has selected also Leonardo Duque, Cayetano Sarmiento, Camilo Castiblanco, Fabio Duarte, Walter Pedraza, Brayan Ramirez and Miguel Angel Rubiano, former Colombian national champion, for the five-day event that will provide the team with plenty of opportunities to reach its goal.

 

After a difficult first day, that will bring a mix of climbs and cobbled sections before ending in Orchies, the peloton will go to Maubeuge, a town which will host the finish for the first time in 47 years. Stage three will not have an impact on the overall standings, but it will be an important one nevertheless, as it’s going to honor the victims of World War l. One day later, the peloton will head towards Cassel, a key finish at the previous editions, where it’s very likely to see a great battle between the GC contenders. The race will end in Dunkerque, with the sprinters having a go at the win, after passing 10 times over a 6,9 km-long circuit.
