JUNIORES. GIRO DELLA LUNIGIANA: MARCO BRENNER VINCE LA 1^ TAPPA

Esordio col botto del tedesco Marco Brenner che si è imposto nella 1^ tappa del Giro della Lunigiana di 100 km da Lerici a Pegazzano (La Spezia).

Il neo 17enne ha saputo avere la meglio allo sprint su Andrea Piccolo (Lombardia) , una coppia che si è formata lungo l’ultimo GPM di giornata, Biassa. Brenner ha preso in testa lo sprint ed è riuscito a difendersi dal ritorno del campione europeo a cronometro che si consola parzialmente con la maglia rossa della classifica degli scalatori.

Germania sugli scudi e tatticamente perfetta con la grande prestazione di Michel Hessmann, vincitore della classifica dei giovani nel 2018, che dal km 20 al km 80 è stato in fuga in solitario, un tentativo che ha raggiunto un vantaggio massimo di 2’55” prima che una sfortunata foratura lungo l’ascesa di La Foce ne frenasse l’azione. Hessmann è stato comunque premiato sul palco con la maglia gialla di leader della classifica dei traguardi volanti. Al suo inseguimento in quel momento c’era un gruppetto di 10 corridori: Piras (Italia) Vandenbulcke, Debruyne (Belgio), Bagattin (Lombardia), Stokke (Norwegia), Dignani (Marche), Oelke (Germania), Bazzica (Umbria), Cattelan, Ongaro (Veneto). 

Raggiunto Hessmann era il sardo Piras ad attaccare in discesa e ad imboccare l’ascesa finale di Biassa con 35″ sul gruppo. Era Piccolo in prima persona a forzare seguito da Brenner e a 500 metri dal GPM la coppia si riportava su Piras che non riusciva a seguire il loro ritmo.

Piccolo e Brenner continuavano di comune accordo fino all’arrivo mentre alle loro spalle era nuovamente Piras ad attaccare in discesa e ad anticipare la volata di un gruppo molto frazionato che veniva regolato da Jakub Bittner (Rep. Ceca) su Giosuè Crescioli e Davide De Pretto, entrambi della Nazionale italiana.

MARCO BRENNER WINS THE 1ST STAGE

The german Marco Brenner has won the 1st stage of the Giro della Lunigiana of 100 kms from Lerici to Pegazzano (La Spezia).

The 17 years old rider was able to beat at the sprint Andrea Piccolo (Lombardia), a duo of riders who were able to escape from the peloton along the last KOM of the day, Biassa.

Brenner has took the lead in the final sprint and he succeeded to leave the european time trial champion behind himself. Piccolo can be happy anyway as he gets the red jersey of the KOM

The tactic of Germany was perfect as Michel Hessmann, winner of the young riders classification in 2018, was on the spotlight with a solo breakaway from the km 20 to the km 80, an attempt that reached till 2’55” of maximum gap and that was stopped also because of a puncture during the climb of La Foce. Hessmann was awarded on the podium with the yellow jersey as leader of the intermediate sprints classification

A bunch of 10 riders was able to bridge to him on La Foce:  Piras (Italy) Vandenbulcke, Debruyne (Belgium), Bagattin (Lombardia), Stokke (Norway), Dignani (Marche), Oelke (Germany), Bazzica (Umbria), Cattelan, Ongaro (Veneto)    

Andrea Piras attacked from this group in the downhill and approached the final climb of Biassa with 35″ on the peloton. Piccolo in first person made the decisive forcing followed only by Brenner and with 500 metres to the top of the climb they caught and distanced Piras.

Piccolo and Brenner cooperated till the finish and behind them, at 26″, the third spot on the podium was for Piras that attacked again in the downhill to anticipate the sprint of a very selected group that was won by Jakub Bittner (Czech Republic) on Giosuè Crescioli and Davide De Pretto, both from the Italian National Team.

“Sto molto bene, oggi ho voluto provare la gamba in salita anche in vista dei prossimi giorni. Abbiamo preso la salita con 40″ di svantaggio da Piras e quindi abbiamo deciso di fare fin da subito un bel ritmo. Stavo bene e ho provato a partire e poi quando sono rimasto da solo con Brenner ho visto che c’era la possibilità di collaborare fino all’arrivo. Allo sprint purtroppo sono stato rallentato da una buca ma comunque sono contento della mia prova. Non sarà un duello tra me e Brenner, siamo tanti pretendenti e credo che la cronometro di domani possa iniziare a dare delle indicazioni più precise”

“I feel very good, today I wanted to test my leg on the climb also looking for the next days. We were 40″ in late from Piras  and that’s why we started the climb with a strong pace from the bottom. I felt good and I tried to attack, then when I was on my own with Brenner I was that he wanted to cooperate and we made it to the finish. In the sprint unfortunately I hit a hole but I’m happy anyway. There are a lot of pretenders for the GC and I think that tomorrow’s time trial will give us an idea on the status of all of us”

Ci ho provato da lontano, quando mi hanno ripreso Piccolo e Brenner ho stretto i denti ma non sono riuscito a seguirli. Una volta ripreso dal gruppo ci ho riprovato in discesa e questo mi ha permesso di conquistare questo bellissimo piazzamento. Sto bene e nei prossimi giorni spero di potermi ripetere e migliorare”

I tried far from the finish, and when Piccolo and Brenner have bridged to me I gave everything I have but it wasn’t possible to follow them. Once I was caught by the peloton I retried in the downhill and now I’m here on the podium. My condition is great and in the following days I hope I can do even better than today”
