La 3^tappa del Giro d’Italia ha offerto alla LAMPRE-MERIDA segnali molto interessanti riguardanti uno dei suoi corridori di punta, Diego Ulissi.

Il fuoriclasse toscano ha pedalato per gran parte del percorso (136 km da Rapallo a Sestri Levante) in avanscoperta, membro assieme al compagno Mori di una fuga di 25 corridori nata dopo 3 km di gara.

Il gruppo non ha dato molto spazio agli attaccanti, tenendo la fuga sempre sotto controllo e limitando il divario.

Ulissi ha mostrato una pedalata efficace e sciolta lungo il mosso profilo altimetrico della tappa, risultando brillante nei due Gpm (Colle Caprile e Barbagelata).

La fuga, che lungo il percorso si era progressivamente ridotta nel numero di componenti, è stata definitivamente neutralizzata nell’avvicinamento all’innesto sull’Aurelia, strada sulla quale il gruppo ha poi raggiunto Sestri Levante per l’arrivo in volata vincente di Matthews, su una settantina di corridori tra i quali i blu-fucsia-verdi Polanc (22°), Grmay (58°), Ulissi (68°) e Niemiec (69°).

Maglia rosa consolidata sulle spalle di Matthews, Polanc è il migliore della LAMPRE-MERIDA occupando la 62^ posizione a 2’18”.

“Volevo valutare le mie sensazioni e vedermi in azione in una fuga – ha spiegato Ulissi (foto Bettini) – Ho pedalato bene, sentivo di avere buone gambe, purtroppo il gruppo ha lasciato poco spazio, ma con 25 corridori in avanscoperta questo era prevedibile. Ringrazio Mori per avermi spalleggiato molto bene.

Questa tappa mi ha dato segnali incoraggianti, sento la condizione crescere e ho visto che anche la squadra, con corridori come Grmay e Polanc molto brillanti, ha potenzialità per essere competitiva”.

Il ds Orlando Maini ha spiegato che: “Per la LAMPRE-MERIDA vedere Diego attivo e voglioso di fare la corsa è un ottimo segnale, perché ci indica che sente la condizione crescere e che le motivazioni sono quelle giuste.

Non dobbiamo però dimenticare altri buoni riscontri: Grmay pedala molto bene in salita e si sta muovendo bene in gruppo; Polanc ha tenuto con sicurezza le ruote dei migliori in un percorso nervoso come quello di oggi e sembra avere energie da mettere a frutto; Niemiec ha mostrato una buona gamba. Bene anche l’inserimento di Xu nel gruppo: è molto attento alle indicazioni dei tecnici e riesce a mettersi al servizio della squadra in attesa di tappe a lui più congeniali nelle quali poter avere le sue occasioni”.

Il Team LAMPRE-MERIDA manda un incoraggiamento a Domenico Pozzovivo, caduto nel corso della tappa odierna, con l’augurio di ritrovarlo presto in corsa.

The 3rd stage of the Giro d’Italia showed Diego Ulissi in the head of the race.

The Tuscan rider joined a 25 riders breakaway which began 3 km in the course (136 km from Rapallo to Sestri Levante). Manuele Mori was the other LAMPRE-MERIDA’s cyclist who supported Ulissi in the breakaway.

Considering that high number of the attackers, the peloton did not give too much advantage to the breakaway, controlling the gap, however Ulissi (photo Bettini) had the opportunity to demonstrate that his form is improving and that his legs were competitive on the two Kom of the stage (Colle Caprile and Barbagelata).

The breakaway was definitely neutralized in the approach of Sestri Levante and Matthews could precede 73 riders in the final sprint.

In the head group there were 4 blu-fuchsia-green athletes: Polanc (22nd), Grmay (58th), Ulissi (68th) and Niemiec (69th).

Matthews is the leader of the overall classification, Polanc is 62nd at 2’18”.

“My aim for today stage was to check my feelings and to evaluate how my legs would have react pedaling in a breakaway – Diego Ulissi explained – I had good feedbacks, I succeeded in approaching the climbs without too much effort, but the breakaway did not receive the necessary freedom from the bunch: 25 riders was a too large number.

I thank Mori who supported me in the breakaway.

My form is improving, my legs supported me in a good way in the climbs and I noticed that also the team has energies to spent in the chase of a good result”.

The sport director Orlando Maini pointed out how “is important for the LAMPRE-MERIDA having seen the improvements of Diego Ulissi: he’s motivated and he will be competitive in the next stages.

We received also good feedbacks from Grmay, Polanc and Niemiec.

We also appreciated the feeling between Xu Gang and the rest of the team: he succeded in being important for the team mates and he’ll have his chances soon”.
