From April 20st to 26th on the most beautiful island of the Mediterranean, six days by bike to discover the most wild and uncontaminated views of southern Sardinia.
On the most elegant and wild island of the Mediterranean during the Easter holidays, there is a cycling race with incomparable charm: the Sardinia Tour (Giro Sardegna) scheduled from 20 to 26 April between the resorts of Villasimius, Chia, Pula, Portoscuso, Nebida and Buggerru.
From the passion for the cycle tourism of the Mare & Monti association, presided over by the tireless Tonino Scarpitti since 1994, an event was born that – for charm, beauty of the landscapes and sense of welcome – has become an unmissable event for those who love cycling safety, in the most uncontaminated nature.
“The Sardinia Tour (Giro Sardegna) has existed for over 20 years – explains Mr. Scarpitti – and in all these years we have managed to get into the hearts of cyclists, offering them an exciting cycling holiday. There are those who have not missed an edition, those who have participated for some years and those ones for the first time. Each of them, however, always gets excited in the same way “.
Tonino Scarpitti, soul and heart of the island exhibition, has no doubts: “We do not offer athletes – he says – simply a cycling race, but a complete experience adapted to everyone’s needs: from the cyclist who, on marvelous itineraries, chases the performance to those ones, completely indifferent to the classifications, seek primarily the emotions of a slow holiday. The added value of the Sardinia Tour (Giro Sardegna) is just that: we organize the race, but then it is the cyclist who decides how to interpret it “.
One of the main features of the festival is the rich prizes available (many in a raffle), technical gifts or other valuable ones made available by sponsors. What’s the most desired? The registration for the next edition.
Between the wonderful “sea view” road of Villasimius, the coastal lines of Nora, Pula, Chia and Teulada and the coastal language of Portoscuso, Nebida and Buggerru, the Sardinia Tour allows you to explore some of the most beautiful views of southern Sardinia.
We are going to start, as mentioned, April 21 with the Cyclo-sport race and the Middle-distance race (Medio Fondo) of Villasimius.
The following day space for specialists against time with the individual time trial. On April 23rd the third stage: the coast of Chia. And right after the time-trial. On April 25, the fifth stage, or the Cyclo-sport race (GranFondo) and Sardinia Middle-distance race (MedioFondo Sardegna) – Portoscuso that precedes, the day after, the “uphill finish”.
Finally, from 2019, the shield “Sardinian Middle-distance racer of the Year” will be established, a new special prize to be awarded to the first 10 Sardinian middle-distance racers classified in the special ranking that will sum up the “MF of Villasimius” on April 21 and the “MF Sardinia-Portoscuso “of April 25.
This ranking is reserved for residents in Sardinia (participants in the Middle-distance tour “MedioFondo” or the Sardinians who enroll only in the both Middle distance races “MedioFondo).
In the afternoon of April 25th, in Portoscuso, the first 10 of the two combined classifications will be rewarded with a shield sewing on the shirt.
The period of Easter holidays, among other things, allows you to combine the Sardinia Tour (Giro Sardegna) with a pleasant holiday on the island that, in its southern part, offers long dream beaches and waters that recall those of the most remote tropical paradises.
The best way to visit the area is to move by motorbike or car. Fine beach and low vegetation remind us that Africa is not far away. The scenery is similar to some stretches of sea in Tunisia with the difference that here the sea is crystal clear and there is a scent of myrtle, strawberry tree and rosemary.
Following the Sulcitana road (Sulcis region) in Arrieras, we arrive at Pula, a small rural town with the archaeological site of Nora, the oldest city on the island. Continuing west, please continue along the coast road to Porto Teulada, enjoying one of the most spectacular landscapes of the entire Sardinian coast.
If you are looking for a beach you will be spoiled for choice: from the Chia Tower there is a succession of sandy shores: Tuerra, Porto Campana, the beach of su Sali up to Giudeu, one of the most beautiful and photographed beaches of the world. Capo Spartivento, absolutely is worth a visit, from the crystalline sea to the white beach that extends for about 500-600 meters.
