Holiday on Two Wheels

A look at the Via Trentina for Eco-friendly Tourism, 400 kilometres of bikeways immersed in nature, from the Dolomites to Lake Garda

Clear and detailed signage, a variety of routes for families with children, and “bike stops” scattered all along the road where you can sip on a coffee, enjoy a snack or check the pressure of your tires. Plus, of course, breathtaking vistas wherever you turn.

These are the ingredients of the Via Trentina for Eco-Friendly Tourism, a cycling path that unfolds over more than 400 kilometres and lets you visit the entire region with your feet on the pedals, from Trento to Rovereto and from the Dolomite mountains to Lake Garda. The different itineraries were planned to have something for all tastes: from the iconic climb up Monte Bondone, named for Charly Gaul and suitable for both street and mountain bikes, to the cycling path that wanders through the Valley of Lakes, there are plenty of options for both the challenge-seeking expert and the novice who just wants to enjoy an invigorating ride in a beautiful setting.

Breeze passed fields of apple trees and vineyards, through towns and villages or into the woods, alongside lakes and the Adige river, all on bikeways where the degree of difficulty is clearly indicated by signs which help bikers get their bearings, and understand if the difficulties ahead are appropriate or excessive. Each of the many routes has its own distinctive features, but all share one common trait: they allow cyclists to enjoy this experience in total safety.

And should you become excessively fatigued, getting back to the base is never a problem, thanks to an extensive public transportation network that allows for easy bike transport.
