LAMPRE-MERIDA – CRITÈRIUM DU DAUPHINÈ

Rui Costa centra ancora un podio in una corsa di altissimo livello.

Il portoghese della LAMPRE-MERIDA aggiunge il 3° posto finale nel Critèrium du Dauphinè 2015 (foto Bettini)alla lunga collezione di piazzamenti e vittorie nelle più importanti competizioni mondiali a tappe (tre successi nel Giro di Svizzera, un podio nella Parigi-Nizza, tre podi nel Giro di Romandia), oltre ai tanti successi ottenuti nelle gare in linea.Una costanza di rendimento nei grandi appuntamenti che sottolinea l’altissima classe e competitività del campione del mondo di Firenze 2013.

Il 3° gradino del podio è stato conquistato grazie a una prestazione maiuscola nell’ultima tappa della competizione francese, la Saint Gervais Mont Blanc-Modane Valfréjus di 156,5 km con 5 Gpm e arrivo in salita di 1^categoria: Rui ha tagliato il traguardo al 3° posto, in compagnia di Yates (2°) e Van Garderen (4°), con un ritardo di 18″ dal vincitore Froome e con 26 preziosissimi secondi di vantaggio su Intxausti, stamane al 3° podio nella classifica generale.

Con i 26″ e l’abbuono, Rui ha superato proprio Intxausti, precedendolo nella graduatoria finale di 5″. Vittoria per Froome con 10″ su Van Garderen e 1’16” su Rui Costa.

Per soli 3″ invece Valls (oggi 12° a 52″ dal vincitore) non ha completato una splendida rimonta verso la top 10, fermandosi in 11^posizione a 4’20” da Froome.

Ruben Plaza ha invece centrato la top 20, concludendo la fatica francese al 18° posto.

“Alla partenza di oggi ero già molto soddisfatto del bilancio nel Critèrium du Dauphinè – ha spiegato Rui Costa – Tornavo a questa corsa dopo aver vinto per tre volte il Giro di Svizzera, mi ero rimesso in gioco ed ero riuscito a conquistare una tappa e ad assestarmi al 4° posto.

Il podio era vicino, ma conoscevo bene il valore di Intxausti, così ho pensato solo a pedalare al meglio su salite a me adatte.

Il passo sulla ascesa finale è stato molto alto e quando Intxausti è andato in difficoltà il morale ha aiutato le mie gambe a tenere duro, a non scompormi nei tratti più impegnativi e a salire con regolarità ed efficacia.

Ho provato a rimanere lucido, sapevo che era la cosa più importante da fare perché con me c’era Yates, sul quale avevo pochi secondi in classifica generale. Ho lottato fino all’ultimo metro e ho centrato un podio fantastico.

Ringrazio tutta la squadra per il grande lavoro fatto durante tutto il Critèrium, siamo un bel gruppo che potrà cercare soddisfazioni al Tour de France”.

Rui Costa is once again on a podium in a top level race.

The portuguese from Team LAMPRE-MERIDA add the 3rd final place in the Critèrium du Dauphinè 2015 (photo Bettini) to the large collection of top results and victories in the most important short stages races (three victories in the Tour de Suisse, one podium in the Paris-Nice, three podiums in the Tour de Romandie), in addition to the many successes in the one day races.

The 3rd place was conquered thanks to a perfect performance in the final stage of the French race, Saint Gervais Mont Blanc-Modane Valfréjus of 156,5 km with 5 Kom summit arrival on a 1st category Kom: Rui reached the arrival in the 3rd place, with Yates (2nd) and Van Garderen (4th), 18″ after the winner Froome and with 26 precious seconds of advantage on Intxausti, who was 3rd this morning in the overall classification.

Thanks to the 26″ of advantage and to the time bonus, Rui succeded in overtaking Intxausti and obtaining the podium for 5″.

Froome won the race with 10″ on Van Garderen and 1’16” on Rui Costa.

Valls was impressive too, obtaining the 12th position in the stage (+52″), unfortunately this result was not enough for enter in the top ten, who is 3″ far: Valls completed the Critèrium du Dauphinè in 11th position at 4’20” to Froome.

Ruben Plaza succeded in completing the French race in the top 20, obtaining the 18th place.

“Today at the start I was satisfied for my performance in the Critèrium du Dauphinè – Rui Costa explained – I had come back to this race after three victories in a row in the Tour de Suisse, I obtained one stage victory and I was 4th in the overall classification, these were very good achievements for me.

The podium was not so far, but I was aware of the value of Intxausti.

During the race, I was focused on the road and in managing the energies, especially in the final climb which was covered at a very high rythm.

When I noticed that Intxausti was in late, the morale helped my legs to give their best and to manage the situation, because Yates, who was just behind me in the overall classification, was pedaling close to me.

I succeded in obtaining a place on an amazing podium: I thank my mates for theirs support, this is a good group which could battle for obtaining satisfaction in the Tour de France”.
